Find Inspiration on Flipster (Image)

Flipster

Did you know that you can digitally flip through 60 different magazines using the Flipster Digital Magazines platform? We have all of your favorite popular magazines, like Vogue and People, plus dozens of magazines that support different programs at PCC like digital art, studio art, fashion, the sciences, history, and more!

The easiest way to access Flipster is to go to the library homepage and scroll down to the bottom right corner. You'll see a rotating gallery of different magazine covers, click any magazine (even one you don't want to read) and you'll get to the Flipster platform. Click the Flipster logo in the top left of the screen to view more of our collection.

You can also browse all of our magazines using this link: https://flipster.ebsco.com/c/5vd4yf/browse. You will need to sign in to MyPima to use Flipster off campus.

You can email, print, or save pages of Flipster magazines as PDFs. Happy flipping!

Spooky Season is upon us!

Halloween is a time when people love a good scare, and what better way to do that than by watching a horror film. Horror movies have been around for decades and have always been a popular choice for people looking for a good fright. So, if you're looking for a good scare this Halloween, check out our "Streaming Horror Films Guide"! Our LibGuide highlights a great selection of movies available to be streamed through Kanopy. We also have a selection of DVDs that can be requested and checked out at our campus libraries. So, why not grab some popcorn and turn on a horror movie? Just make sure to leave the lights on!

Banned Books Displays

Banned Books week was celebrated over the week of October 1st to the 7th. Banned Books Week is a time to acknowledge and appreciate the freedom to read without interference or censorship. It is also a time to recognize the harm that censorship can cause to society. When books are banned or censored, it limits the free flow of ideas and can prevent individuals from accessing important information and perspectives. By celebrating Banned Books Week, we can help to ensure that the right to read and access to information is protected for everyone. Check out our Gallery below of all the awesome book displays from our campus libraries. Want to know more about why books are banned? Look at our Banned Books LibGuide to learn more!

Becoming a Librarian

Have you ever considered a career in libraries? Colleges, universities and schools, public libraries, government agencies, and even corporations employ people with skills and experience in library and information sciences. The University of Arizona’s iSchool offers undergraduate degrees in Information Science and PCC’s LIS courses (LIS150, LIS210 and LIS 260) transfer directly. Some positions in libraries require a master's degree in Library and Information Science, also on offer at the UA.

These graduate students are on their way to becoming librarians and are doing internships this fall at the PCC Library!

Image: Meet out PCC Library Interns: Soul Ezra BjornsonHey there! My name is Soul Ezra Bjornson. I am a grad student from the University of Arizona majoring in Library and Information Science. I am an intern at the Downtown campus library for this semester working on various multimedia projects and general librarianship skills. In my free time, I love listening to music and growing my record collection; reading; filmmaking; and painting. It has been a wonderful few months working on campus and I hope to return in the spring. If you ever see me, say what's up! Colin MacKay Colin MacKay (he/him) is a Masters of Library and Information Science student from the University of Alberta, and is interning online with PCC librarian, Kris Swank, to learn more about OERs and open access. He currently lives in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and works at both the Vaughan Memorial Library at Acadia University and at the Annapolis Valley Regional Library. Beyond the library, Colin reads fantasy and non-fiction (most recent favorite was The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern), makes pottery, and goes for hikes whenever the fickle Atlantic weather cooperates. Jessi Galanter Jessi Galanter (She/Her) is serving as intern for the Distance Education Library this fall. She is an MA-LIS student at the University of Arizona who previously studied English (Creative Writing emphasis) and minored in Sociology at California State University, Long Beach. She also has a Library Technology certificate from Santa Ana College as well as several years working or interning in libraries. Her interests include: literature, the arts, pop culture, bad movies, good movies, social justice, nature, spontaneous dance parties, and colorful things. Her writing/photography has appeared in Riprap Journal, The Fat Zine, Curio Cabinet Magazine, and Homies Who Submit. She lives in Southern California with her imaginary cat (she’s allergic).

Jessi started her journey toward librarianship as a community college student. We asked her a few questions about her path:

  • Question: What kind of librarian do you want to be? Academic, school, public or special librarian (law, health science, corp. etc)

Answer: I want to be an Academic librarian–specifically a community college librarian. I started college as a community college student, so I know firsthand the magic of the community college library. But, I’m open to all kinds of libraries.

  • Question: What excites you about entering the profession as a librarian?

Answer: I’m really excited to do instruction, and to connect with people. I have ADHD, and school doesn’t come easily for me. My hope is that I can help facilitate an inclusive library environment for people to be able to heal, grow, and learn.

  • Question: What advice would you give someone interested in completing a library science master's program?

Answer: Accept help when it is offered. I know that’s easier said than done, but I wouldn’t be where I am without help. I’m lucky to know many wonderful LIS folks who have been so encouraging (thank you, Santa Ana College Library staff). Find something fun to do that will give your mind a break. I watch episodes of campy TV, like Degrassi and Riverdale. And, remember that your academic successes or failures don’t define your worth.
