Getting Started with Research
CountryWatch is an information provider for corporations, government agencies, universities, schools, libraries and individuals needing up-to-date news and information on each of the recognized countries of the world.
Navigate to the 'Culture Watch' section of the site for profiles on the country & its culture. Important pages to look at include:
Fast Facts: Languages spoken
People: More language, ethnicity (cultural competence, recognizing internal difference)
Etiquette: Non-verbal communication
History: Useful for both local context & thinking about how a country sees the US
Political Power & System: Key for understanding what business might be like in this country, what tensions exist, etc.
Communication & Mass Media Complete
This database contains mostly peer-reviewed articles which have a narrow focus. For instance, they’ll focus on one small aspect of a culture’s communication norms (i.e. one gesture, silence among children). This database is most useful for getting detailed information after you've already gathered general information on the country of your choice.
Below are travel guides available through the Pima Community College Libraries. Remember: You can check out books from any library in the PCC system and you can have books delivered to any campus.
