TLC: Teaching and Learning Center: VLC: Virtual Learning Communities

This guide supports programs of the PCC Teaching & Learning Center by

Virtual Learning Communities

What is a VLC?

Virtual Learning Communities are organized through the TLC. Small groups meet several times online to study a topic or question.

When the study centers on a book, the Library can provide access to a limited number of copies. (Many times participants get their own copies of the book from a store.)

Scroll down for information on books for current, future, and past VLCs.

VLC: Teacher Burnout Turnaround

Time: Wednesday, 12/1 & 12/8 3:00-4:00pm   An additional follow-up session will be scheduled for Spring semester

Please register from this form prior to the session.

Description: In this VLC, we will read and discuss selected excerpts from the book Teacher Burnout Turnaround (Patricia Jennings, 2000).  The book extends her previous works, Mindfulness for Teachers and The Trauma-Sensitive Classroom by applying systems-thinking to discuss how teachers can transform schools to overcome teacher burnout.  Participants will also have the opportunity to watch and discuss videos of Patricia Jennings' talks.  In addition to discussing the book and videos, we will ground our discussions about burnout through some practical hands-on experience of meditative practices from Mindfulness for Teachers. Time will be devoted as well to brainstorming how we as faculty can take a leadership role in turning around faculty burnout here at Pima College
