Chicago Style: Author-Date System

Chicago Style has two distinct formats for citing sources. Check with your instructor to verify which format you should use.

The Author Date system is generally used in the physical, natural and social sciences.  It uses parenthetical citations in-text, with a References List at the end of the paper.

 Example:

The video game character Pac-Man was inspired by the Japanese folk hero Paku who was known for his large appetite. The game was Toru Iwatani's attempt to create a nonviolent arcade game, which would appeal to both men and women (Rabin 2008, 23).
