APA References: Citation Generator

Citation Generator

Citefast.com is a free ad-supported citation generator. It seems to do a good job. However, you need to know what you are doing. We recommend using the the Manual entry mode, rather than using the search feature.

Time saver:   If you found an article in a library database, you probably emailed it to yourself. This email probably includes the APA citation too!

Open Citefast.com

  • Choose the correct publication type.
    • Book
    • Journal (for an article)
    • Other (browse the possible types)
    • Webpage
      • Warning: before you use "Webpage," click the "Other" tab. If your source fits anything on theis list, use the category on the list.
      • Use "Webpage" only when there is no other type that fits, and the work has no parent publication (e.g. journal, blog) other than the website itself.
  • Don't use the search box provided. This will lead you astray.
  • Instead click Manual
    • Carefully fill in the form, as directed.
    • Remember garbage, garbage out!
