PSY 101 - Downtown - Introduction to Psychology (Rangel): Find Articles

MegaSearch

Purpose:

  • Find scholarly/academic articles in the discipline of psychology that have been peer reviewed.
  • Optional: Also limit to articles that review the research.

 

1. Open MegaSearch.  (You may be asked to authenticate.)

2. Enter your search terms.        Example: schizophrenia

3. Click Search

4. Select Scholar & Peer Reviewed ( left side, top).

5. Scroll down a bit, under Discipline, select Psychology.

Optional: Find articles that review the research

  • Click Advanced (in the search box, right side).
  • In the lower search box, click All Fields, then select Title.
  • Enter this word: review
  • Click Search.

Google Search

Purpose: 

  • Find articles on your psychology topic using a web search engine.
  • Compare the types of publications found here to peer reviewed sources.

 

1. Open Google (or use your browser address bar).

2. Enter your keywords, and Search.

Optional:

  • Scroll the first page, noticing the kinds of sources with purple links
    • For more information on the source, click the "three dot" icon

  • Try a more specific search on your topic. Add a focusing topic.
  • Example: schizophrenia treatment
