New Little Free Library at East Campus Library

The Little Free Library is available to anyone. Come by and take a book or leave a book. We have the following on the shelves at the moment: Shakespeare books, some popular books donated by library employees, and coming soon - school supplies.

Feeling a little scream-ish this Halloween? Check out our guide and stream something scary! 

This LibGuide will help you to find movies and films that are accessible via streaming directly from our databases right to you, as well as some DVD's available at campus libraries for check out. Some of the databases used are Kanopy and Swank Streaming Media. These databases are only accessible if you are a currently registered student, Faculty, or Staff within Pima Community College.

Indigenous Peoples Day

Indigenous Peoples’ day is October 11th, 2021

Did you know that Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized tribes? Many states and major cities have opted to celebrate the Indigenous (originating or occurring naturally in a particular place; Native) peoples’ of the United States instead of Columbus day.

The article, “Indigenous Peoples Day comes amid a reckoning over colonialism and calls for return of Native land“ is available through our Opposing Viewpoints database.

Gomez (2021) writes, “as Indigenous peoples the world over continue to defend ancestral lands, Indigenous Peoples Day can have important meaning, more than just the renaming of a national holiday. It is an invitation to contend with the impacts of colonialism and the wrongful appropriation of Indigenous lands”.

We also have a great collection of Native authored works and movies. Including the movies: Smoke Signals, The Business of Fancy Dancing, The Cherokee Word for Water, and Rhymes for Young Ghouls. Some Native authored works include: There There, The Only Good Indians, PostColonial Love Poem, and Red: A Haida Manga.

We have also created a libguide for November which is Native American Heritage month that highlights many of the resources we have available across our libraries.

East Campus Library Makerspace Event

Students, faculty and staff can visit the Makerspace in October and November to create their own custom keychain and to learn about the laser cutter. All materials and assistance using the tools provided, just bring your ideas!

West Campus Library Brownbag Speaker

Each year, libraries across the country spotlight questions of intellectual freedom and censorship with events and displays for Banned Books Week. Many people are unaware that books are regularly challenged or banned from libraries, schools, and bookstores. In the Spring of 2020, Amazon briefly banned the sale of Hitler's anti-Semitic propaganda title, Mein Kampf, anywhere on their platform before reintroducing the title for sale in a limited way months later. The book was banned in post-war Germany until 2016 when a heavily annotated version was published there. Professor Carl-Michal Krawczyk will help us to frame the polarizing discussion around Mein Kampf. We will consider history, context, and the power of the written word during this lunchtime presentation and discussion.
