This guide is intended to help history students locate free videos from a variety of sources.

Movies in Time Guide

The purpose of this guide is to assist you in choosing free movies for the "Movies in Time" projects in the following classes:

HIS 141 - History of the United States I

HIS 142 - History of the United States II

HIS 141 - Movies in Time Assignment & Time Period Guidelines

Your assignment is to view an entertainment video (not a documentary) dealing with a historical theme from the course. It must be mainly located in what is now the U.S.  Topics could be related to this geographic area before 1492, colonial societies, Columbian Food Exchange, English Empire, Revolutionary War, God in America, the New Republic, Andrew Jackson, Westward Expansion,  Manifest Destiny, South/Slavery, Civil War, the Oregon Trail through Reconstruction (post-Civil War).

All movies are subject to the instructor's approval. The movies are "first come-first served" so get your pick in early. If your movie is already chosen then you will have to pick another.

HIS 142 - Movies in Time Assignment & Time Period Guidelines

For the Movies in Time Discussion, you will be doing a movie review on a historically-based movie. You can pick any movie that deals with a theme from the course. There is a requirement that they need to fall between 1870-2010.

All movies are subject to the instructor's approval. The movies are "first come-first served" so get your pick in early. If your movie is already chosen then you will have to pick another.
